The Statue of Unity- A Pride of India like Taj Mahal Agra

The statue of Unity dedicated to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel can aptly be given the epithet as “the Pride of India” like the Agra Taj Mahal. This statue is built to show the commitment of the Iron Man Sardar Patel in consolidating the princely states and unifying the nation from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The Statue of Unity

Location- This highest statue of the world is situated in Kevadia Colony of Narmada District of Gujarat on Sadhu Bet River Island facing the famous Sardar Sarovar Dam. This 182 meters lofty statue is designed by the famous sculptor Ram.V.Sutar and by its high magnitude it unfolds the great personality of Sardar Patel and his deeds. Besides the most popular Golden Triangle Tour this statue of unity is getting large attraction of the tourists.

Envisaging the Project-

The dream project was an outcome of Prime Minister Modi and was announced in 2010 when he urged the people of India to donate the iron from every house for this great project. He envisaged something like the Statue of Liberty in U.S.A but the scale of the statue surpassing the highest statue of Buddha.

Thus this project was handed over to Larsen & Tubro Company and they started working on it in 2013 and completed it in 2018. Finally it was inaugurated by P.M Modi on 31 Oct 2018. Prime minister wanted to make this place as a hub of Gujarat Tourism. Thus he also planned for some other attractions at this site.

How to Reach Statue of Unity- The statue of Unity can easily be visited by taking a car or public bus from the major Gujarat cities. Nearest Airport is Vadodara and Ahmadabad. It is at a distance of 100 km from Vadodara, 200km from Ahmadabad and 150 km from Surat. It is 420 km from Mumbai: The nearest city to the statue is Rajpita city, which is only 25 km away from the Dam of Sardar Sarovar.

What to visit in Statue of Unity- The statue can be segregated in five zones and out of 5 only 3 are open for the public viewing. The first level is the base and houses a beautiful museum focusing the deeds of Sardar Patel towards the Nation and is a famous site of India Tours. The second level is made up to the thighs of the statue.

The third zone is above that and provides a great spectacle of Narmada River and Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges. The 4 and 5th levels are high altitude and are not open to the public and are just for the maintenance. The viewing gallery can accommodate more than 200 visitors at a time at an altitude of 153 meters.

The Statue of Unity Timings – The statue is open to the public every week days except Mondays from 9 A.M to 5 P.M, You can spend nearly 2 hours at the statue of Unity and few hours in visiting the some other attraction such as Sardar Sarovar Dam, Valley of Flowers and the Museum etc.

Not to carry- You are not supposed to carry eatables, smoking items beyond entry point as there is a security frisking. You can find the food items in the food court inside.

The entry tickets can be bought online one day prior to the visit. For the visit of this monument along with the visit of valley of flowers it cost INR 120 for the adults and 60 for the kids to the age of 15. This ticket price does not include the visit of Viewing Gallery.

The ticket for visit the viewing gallery is 350 for Adults and 200 for the kids. You can also have the facility of Express Entry or skip the line rate of INR-1000 for both adults and kids.

As you book online you can keep a copy of the entry pass with you. This entry ticket avails you the facility of attending a laser show at sunset and the visit of museum.

Attractions of Statue of Unity- You can also enjoy the Helicopter ride for 10 minutes over the statue of Unity by spending INR 2900 per person. The aerial view would certainly mesmerize you. This ride is available from 9:30 to one hour prior to the sunset every day except Monday. Besides this you can also take part in one hour boat ride in Narmada River.
