Why Chandni Chowk is Famous?

Chandni chowk is one of the oldest market and habitation of Delhi city, this area is famous for its typical authentic food and culture. We will try to cover vegetarian delicious street food of Chandni chowk also popularly known as Delhi-6.

Paranthay wali gali:-This narrow lane has been famous for its piping hot fried paranthay(pancakes),Today only four outlets sell paranthay in this lane “Pandit Babu Ram Devidayal paranthey wala” is one of these four outlets. The tourists visiting Delhi do visit paranthey wali gali to savour the authentic taste of Delhi 6.There are many varieties of paranthas, the new varieties like peri peri , tona totka, mix veg etc are a craze. The fried parantha are served with aaloo sabji(potato curry) kaddoo ki sabji( pumpkin curry) pickle etc. Desi ghee is used for frying the paranthay.

Natraj Dahi Bhalla:-In the narrow lane leading to the Chandni chowk metro station a small shop sells dahi bhalla, the crowds at this shop are a testimony to the taste sold here, the dahi bhalla is a sweet and salty yoghurt dish laced with chutney. This shop dates back to the year 1940 and is famous all over Delhi for its unique taste.

Annapurna Bhandar:-This Bengali sweet shop is located at the favarra chowk opposite Sees ganj gurudwara. The outlet is almost 100 years old and is famous for its authentic Bengali taste. If you love the Bengali sweets like Rasogulla,Sandes etc then do visit this sweet shop and enjoy its delicacies. They also prepare desi ghee samosa famous for its simple pure taste.

Jalebi wala:-No food in India is complete without a serving of sweet dish and nothing excels the taste of desi ghee fried Jalebis of Jalebiwala. This outlet is 130 years old (1884) A 100 gram serving of jalebi today costs 50 Rs at Jalebiwala, this jalebi can be savoured with rabri(condensed milk) which  makes it more rich in taste.

Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai:- Very near to the Fatehpuri masjid intersection is the Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai, Halwai means the sweet meat maker . This outlet is famous for its delicious Gajar ka halwa( carrot pudding cooked in milk fat)Moong ki dal ka halwa( yellow lentil pudding) and so many other famous Indian sweet meat .

Golay Di Hatti:- Not too far from the Fatehpuri mosque is the shop selling Choley palak served in mud utensil(Kulhad)the spicy rice are served with choley(chick peas)and  palak(spicy green spinach) the taste is authentic and amazing.

Giani Di Hatti:- This food joint was established by a Sikh gentleman who migrated from West Punjab(now Pakistan) to Delhi , They are famous for their faluda(semolina) rabri kulfia cup of the same costs 100 Rs and is laced with kilo calories of energy. The taste is loved by the citizens of Delhi they also sell Choley Bhaturey samosa etc.

Shree Shyam Kanjee Bhandar:- A small street vend operated from a small 4x 4 shanty is the Shree Shyam Kanjee Bhandar, they sell dahi bhallas and spicy Kanjee vadaa a spicy fermented drink very well known for its therapeutic qualities.

Jung Bahadur kachorie Bhandar:- Kachorie is a famous snack of north Indian origin this snack is prepared in various flavours like dal, Pyaaz, Aloo etc. The fried spicy pancakes(kachorie) are served with aloo ki sabji(potato curry) pickle and chutney.

Dhani Ram Kulfi and chaat:- This food shop prepares an authentic Indian icecream –The Kulfi in age old Indian way. A metal drum is filled with crushed ice and salt , this drum is rotated on its axis and concentrated milk along with various fruit juices is poured on the drum outer surface which instantly freezes, this frozen dessert is called Kulfi. The taste is so genuine and authentic that sure you will love it
