The Taj Mahal is not just a monument; it’s an experience. Known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this white marble masterpiece in Agra, India, attracts millions of travelers each year. While many come to admire its stunning beauty, there are plenty of things to do in the Taj Mahal that make your visit even more memorable.

In this blog, we’ll guide you through the top activities, photo spots, historical facts, and experiences that you must explore during your trip to the Taj Mahal.

Admire the Architecture and Intricate Details

The first thing to do in the Taj Mahal is to simply take in its breathtaking beauty. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a perfect example of Mughal architecture. Observe the symmetrical design, the white marble domes, and the detailed inlay work using semi-precious stones.

Take time to walk around the platform and study the carvings, floral motifs, and the intricate calligraphy from the Quran engraved on the entrance gates.

Visit at Sunrise for the Best Experience

One of the most rewarding things to do in the Taj Mahal is visiting it at sunrise. The early morning light creates a magical glow on the marble surface, changing colors from soft pink to gold. It’s also the best time to avoid crowds and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Photography lovers especially appreciate this time of day for the perfect lighting and fewer people around.

Explore the Beautiful Charbagh Gardens

The Taj Mahal is set in a classic Mughal-style Charbagh garden, divided into four parts by water channels. These symmetrical gardens represent paradise, with pathways lined with fountains and lush greenery.

Stroll through the garden, enjoy the cool breeze, and capture scenic reflections of the monument in the water pools. Sitting on a bench facing the Taj Mahal is one of the most relaxing things to do.

Discover the Main Mausoleum

Enter the main mausoleum to see the symbolic tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. The actual graves are in a lower chamber, but the replicas in the central hall are beautifully decorated with marble screens and pietra dura artwork.

Inside, you can feel the silence and emotional depth that the monument stands for a symbol of eternal love.

Visit the Mosque and the Guest House

On either side of the Taj Mahal, you’ll find two red sandstone buildings: a mosque and a guest house. The mosque is still active and adds spiritual value to the site. The identical guest house, also called the jawab, was built for architectural balance.

These lesser-known spots offer great views of the main mausoleum and are ideal for peaceful moments away from the central area.

Take Iconic Photos at Popular Spots

Photography is one of the top things to do in the Taj Mahal. Don’t miss these iconic photo spots:

The Princess Diana bench facing the reflecting pool

The main entrance arch framing the Taj Mahal

The rear side near the Yamuna River

From the Mehtab Bagh gardens across the river (best at sunset)

Make sure to carry a good camera or smartphone and avoid tripods, which are not allowed inside.

Learn the History with a Guide

Hiring a licensed local guide is a great way to enrich your visit. They’ll share stories, historical facts, architectural secrets, and cultural details that you may otherwise miss. This is one of the smartest things to do in the Taj Mahal, especially if you’re visiting for the first time.

Audio guides are also available at the entrance or online if you prefer a self-paced tour.

Shop for Souvenirs Near the Taj Mahal

Just outside the Taj Mahal, there are many local markets and souvenir shops where you can buy miniature replicas, marble items, jewelry, handicrafts, and traditional clothes. The Sadar Bazaar and Kinari Bazaar are popular among tourists for shopping.

This is a great way to take a piece of Agra’s art and culture back home.

Enjoy a Traditional Mughlai Meal

After exploring the Taj Mahal, treat yourself to a Mughlai meal in Agra. The city is famous for dishes like kebabs, biryani, butter chicken, and tandoori naan. Restaurants like Pinch of Spice, Jahanpanah, and Taj Terrace offer authentic North Indian flavors with a royal touch.

It’s one of the most satisfying things to do after a cultural and historical tour.

Visit Nearby Attractions

While the Taj Mahal is the star attraction, don’t miss other nearby historical sites:

Agra Fort – A UNESCO site with royal palaces and military architecture

Mehtab Bagh – Garden offering a perfect view of the Taj from across the river

Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb – Known as the “Baby Taj” for its similar design

These spots are within a short drive and complete your Agra experience.

Final Thoughts

There are countless things to do in the Taj Mahal from admiring its stunning architecture and peaceful gardens to capturing dreamy photos and learning about its romantic legacy. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, or with family, the Taj Mahal offers a meaningful experience that stays with you forever.

Plan your visit wisely and explore all the beauty, history, and charm that this world wonder has to offer.

Taj Mahal, the most iconic splendors of India tours, drops millions of tourists annually. Most of the tourists visiting Taj mahal are troubled with questions such as how to book a private Taj mahal tour guide or hire a cab in Agra for the sightseeing? Two decades back tourists used to book the Taj Mahal tours with the tour operators close to their surroundings. Now with the growing popularity and ease with the internet just by online surfing you get thousands of options of Taj Mahal tour packages ranging from few hours to few days with the flexibility of budget.

Private Taj Mahal Tour Guide

While booking the services of cab and tour guide for Taj Mahal you are left in the lurch of what type of vehicle and tour guide you will get during the vacations. I opine when you book the tour you can ask the operator to provide you a picture of the car or coach to be used and the making years. Thus you get to know the condition of the vehicle.

Similarly, in Agra city there are plentiful tour guides who are approved by the Department of Tourism Government of India and the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The government of India-approved tour guides hold a license with the emblem of an elephant. The same way the tour guides approved by Uttar Pradesh tourism hold a proper license. Book Maharaja Express Booking

These guides are well versed in their subject and many of them can converse in multi-languages besides English. While choosing a tour guide you can ask the tour operator to provide you few options of tour guide and you can check their servants on the Trip Advisor or some other eligible forums. You can also get a copy of their license. also visit Jaipur Tour Packages.

Why the Taj mahal has no Lights?

Simple answers to these questions are just for security reasons and to save the Taj Mahal white marble from the light effect there are no lighting provisions on the edifice of the Taj. Barring a few low-level posts which were installed for security purposes, so far there is not a major lighting system.

The Taj Mahal lit at night -when ?

you can recall an occurrence that happened almost two decades back when the Greek performer Yanni gave his concert in the backdrop of the Taj Mahal and for this, he did meticulous planning. It was during this time when Taj Mahal was lit at night. In 1997 this spectacular concert was staged by this western artist and then only the Taj Mahal was illuminated with artificial lights during the night.

“Yanni” with a team of more than 300 performers accomplished this fame. For this tour,, big towers were built for housing the lighting equipment and it had a seating capacity of more than 7000 spectators.
